Pictorial.

Originally, Bull Point was part of a vast track of land owned by Benedict Arnold, grandfather of the traitor. In Colonial times, Fort Dumpling sat directly to the south and was the subject of many paintings by William Trost Richards (1833-1905). The first home on the property, named Harbor Entrance, was a 58-room Queen Anne Style “summer cottage” designed by Charles Bevins. Stone from the original home was incorporated into the new loft/studio design.

This iconic site and studio have been used in advertising for Abercrombie, J. Jill, Ralph Lauren, Berroco, Rhode Island Monthly and other publications. It also served as a wedding venue for many years.

Contemporary.

The current structure was designed in the 1990s and used as a functioning art studio. The central three story structure rises 44 feet from the south elevation and was constructed with a tubular steel superstructure rising up from concrete pillars. This main structure was only recently transformed into a loft-style living space with an open floor plan, window walls, skylights, and illuminated glass floors. This structure, sited entirely on Lot 124, may be renovated or serve as the basis for new construction.

Current Loft and Living Space:

  • 16-foot ceilings, extensive windows, glass and concrete floors
  • Modern kitchen with Viking stove
  • 10-foot handcrafted Dutch doors
  • Baseboard oil heat and wood burning stove
  • 1,848 square feet above grade living area
  • Over 300 square feet of deck and porch areas, including a roofed porch on top floor
  • New roof installed in 2022
  • 1,008 square feet unfinished basement area
  • Designed by Duncan Laurie and Architect Bill Crane, construction began in 1990

Turn Of The Century.

Sitting on a granite bluff facing the Atlantic Ocean, the 1890 cabin welcomes ships as they come and go, day and night. Occupants feel as if they’re on a boat, yet at the same time cloaked on three sides by cedar trees.

The Cabin:

  • 308 square feet
  • Full bathroom with separate existing septic
  • Gas fireplace, wall insulation
  • Window air conditioner, refrigerator

Turn Of The Century.

"With its grand, shingle-style cottages crowning broad lawns, tidy downtown with all of one (blinking) stoplight, sailboat-dotted marina, pair of picturesque lighthouses, and sandy coves and rocky promontories with sweeping sea views, it’s a wonder that this small town that occupies its own 9.5-square-mile island at the mouth of Narragansett Bay isn’t as famous as Southampton."
